Budget Season: Creating the Operating Budget

It’s “Budget Season.” Here’s what you need to know:

1) At January’s BOE meeting, the Superintendent presented her operating budget. That serves as a starting point for the BOE to have discussions about what they want to add/take away from the proposed budget and/or request more funding from the Commissioners.

2) From now until the next BOE meeting on February 11th is the time to give feedback to the BOE on what your priorities are for the CCPS operating budget. Please remember to be polite – you are also more likely to get what you want if you are respectful in your ask.

3) The BOE must send its Approved FY27 Operating budget along with any potential additional funding request to the county by March 1st. I believe the BOE needs to ask for what they need rather than making cuts.

4) The county will go through its budget process from March to May during which time the Commissioners will decide if any amount of additional requested funding will be provided to CCPS. There will be time for providing feedback to the Commissioners so stay tuned!

5) If the Commissioners do not grant additional funding requested by the BOE, the BOE would then need to identify cuts to balance the budget.
