Carroll County FY27 Budget Process
How does the county budget process work and when will the Commissioners vote on the public school funding?
Now through the end of March is really the prime time to make your voice heard to the Commissioners on what your priorities are.
The BOE approved its operating budget request to the county that includes $14M in ongoing revenue ($7.6M was already planned by the county and the remaining $6.4M is an additional ask) and $4M in one-time funds. If the Commissioners do not agree to the additional funding, then the BOE would need to identify cuts to balance the budget.
On March 5th, county staff will provide an FY27 county budget overview presentation. Between March 19th and 26th, the Commissioners will have budget hearings for each of the agencies, including CCPS.
After the FY27 proposed budget is released on April 21st, the Commissioners will have a public hearing on the budget on May 6th. Although there still could be changes after that, I advise everyone to get their comments into the Commissioners earlier in the process.
May 21st is when the Commissioners will vote to adopt the county's FY27 budget.
