My Slate-mate, Julie Walsh
I know my slate-mate Julie Walsh as a dedicated advocate and someone who tries to make the world a better place. I believe Julie is the person who is best equipped to advocate for Carroll at the state level as a member of the Board of Education. She worked as a lobbyist for a nonprofit for six legislative sessions and really knows how Annapolis works. She is savvy, smart, and very strategic.
Back when I was working with her as part of the Carroll Education Coalition, she impressed me with her skills. She helped lawmakers and their staff, many of whom were not necessarily familiar with Carroll's challenges, understand what was happening here and why it was important.
Representing the Carroll Education Coalition, Julie testified in Annapolis on February 19, 2025 at the Joint Hearing for four Committees from the Maryland General Assembly to ask for flexibility in implementing Blueprint prior to CCPS receiving the waiver.
After this election, Maryland legislators are expected to consider modifications to the Blueprint Law. I can think of no better person than Julie Walsh that I would want representing Carroll when Annapolis goes to work to make adjustments to the Blueprint in the 2027 session.
Complaining about the Blueprint will not get us very far in Annapolis. We have to be willing to collaborate on practical solutions and offer meaningful insight to potential Blueprint modifications.
I'm proud to be Julie's friend and slate-mate. She has my trust and confidence to advocate for Carroll at the state level. She has my vote and I hope she has yours too.
