Teaming Up — Article in The Baltimore Banner

A couple of weeks ago, Julie and I saw a short piece in the Baltimore Banner's education newsletter that asked readers whether they thought local boards of education had become too partisan.

As you might imagine, we had some thoughts.

We reached out to the reporter to tell her our story, and ultimately the Banner sent out another reporter to interview us. Over the course of a few conversations, we shared about who we are, why we chose to run together, and what we want for Carroll County Public Schools.

Though we live in different parts of the County and come from different sides of the partisan divide, our experience working together on the Carroll Education Coalition led us to become friends and teammates. After recognizing how well our skills complement one another, and because we both wanted to see our community come together, we decided to do what almost no one does - run for office alongside a member of the opposite party.

We hope you'll take a few minutes to read this article. And we hope that you'll see that even though we come from opposite sides of the aisle, we share a commitment to cooperation, integrity, practical problem solving, and the courage to try something different.
